Eurovision 2023 took place despite the situation

May 16, 2023
Eurovision 2023

The first semi-final took place on May 9. 15 participants took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. It began with a pre-recorded video message from King Charles III and Queen Camilla to attendees and viewers.
Norway, Serbia, Croatia, Portugal, Switzerland, Israel, Moldova, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Finland made it to the grand final. Singer Loreen, representing Sweden with the song "Tattoo" (Tattoo) is not a newcomer, she won the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 with the "Euphoria" (Euphoria) song. The outsiders of the first semi-final were five countries, the chances of which experts initially estimated not very high. Ireland - the record holder for the most victories in the competition, winning seven times and participating more than 50 - this year failed to make it to the final. Malta, Latvia, the Netherlands and Azerbaijan did not make it to the final stage.
The second semi-final demonstrated that Eurovision still has a variety of styles, and its viewers are receptive to them, critics write. In particular, this refers to two compositions that sounded on May 11 at the arena in Liverpool: indie dance pop from a band from Slovenia and rock metal from Australian musicians. Both countries made it to the finals along with Albania, Armenia, Cyprus, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Estonia and Lithuania. Denmark, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Romania and San Marino did not receive the approval of the audience and withdrew from the race.
Several countries brought anti-war compositions to the competition at once. Croatia, for example, performs a song about a "mean little psychopath", which is accompanied by a dance with fake rockets.
In the final, we saw the performances of 26 participants. Among them are 20 winners of the two semi-finals and musicians from the founding countries of the competition (Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Germany). Also in the Grand Final was the Ukrainian band TVORCHI, which, by right of the winning country, did not participate in the semi-final selection last year. Eurovision Song Contest 2023 results:

  • 1st place: Loreen (Sweden)
  • 2nd place: Käärijä (Finland)
  • 3rd place: Noa Kirel (Israel)

Ukraine took 6th place in this song contest, but TVORCHI's performance won the hearts of the audience. It is called one of the most emotional on the song action.
