Swamp Lake

Spitfire (Ru)
Sucks here yet elsewhere
It could be still worse
Live here got my character
Not just any twurp
Who's just pretty and once more
I do understand
That this city was built
On receding swamp land

In the air there is something
Most vily it reeks
And triggers disgust
From below as it leaks
Is it longing or joy
Can't figure it out
In the eyes of those frogs and fish
Just swimming about

Frogs and fish swimming
In that green swampy brew
Lazily but swiftly
When it comes to get food

And the stranger things happen
When the frogs start to drink
On drunken paws stumbling
"We're the birds" is what they think

Beaks glued to their faces
Jump to the chief's call
Ever higher more birdlike
" Flamingos we're all "
" I free you from your slavedom
Let the fish swim alone
I'll make you so happy
Let's build a birds' dome "

Like birds we're flying
In a better of dreams
Now we need to remember
We're not as high as it seems
When conviction takes hold
Of being divine
The proudest turn first
To ridiculous swine

And the old frogs and tadpoles
And the toads in their right
On their beaks wear green swastikas
As a symbol of flight
Snails, leeches and ducklings
In the water stay put
" We're the birds and henceforward
We decide whose the good "

The bloated chief quacking
All was birdlike and good
All were cheering and jumping
Like a trained turkey would
Unaware in his stupor
Of pride our chief
By a stork was gulped down
In a moment so brief

In a panic all ran
And sought hiding out
Like true frogs snapped some flies
And froglike they growled
Now the swamp once again
As always bubbles and smells
While a single drunk frog
Briefly jumped and then fell

The night too, slowly fell
With the last of those birds
Just frogs and toads now
And the quiet returned
Now they quack and catch flies
And just do froggish things
Just at night in their dreams
They still sometimes have wings
