The Wasteland

Sore feet through burning sand
every single step is painful
not a cloud on the clear blue sky
just a thousand faded memories

Mile after mile across
this nameless desert
I drink the sun
and swallow the dust

Walking among the rocks and snakes
silent faces in the haze
in every which direction
the horizon stays the same.

Nightfall makes it worse
freezing cold, no light, no shelter
every single step could be the last
and the wind devours every track.
